Metal Stampings, Fourslide Products & Fabrication

Argo's Metal Capabilities

All of our custom stamping work starts with careful review of CAD files and renderings, and in-house tooling and die making. We use wire EDM machining to create precision cutting tools that stamp parts with minimal variation. These initial steps help us maintain consistent quality products throughout the entire production run.

Metal Stamping & Fourslide Stamping

Metal stamping is an efficient and highly repeatable fabrication process used to create precision parts. It is very versatile, and depending on the type of component being stamped, several types of metal material can be used including sheets, blanks, strips, and even wire. Many operations can be performed in stamping, such as punching, bending, piercing, coining, shearing, drawing, and others. As a result, parts of many sizes and shapes can be produced, with an almost endless combination of features.

We also provide fourslide stamping services, which is well-suited to making parts with one or more bends, twists, and other complex features. In fourslide stamping, a continuous feed of metal coil or metal strips are fed through a special press. The press has four sliding tools, or slides, each performing a different operation, and arranged on all four sides of the horizontal plane, surrounding the forming area. The slides are controlled with cams, and strike the part laterally in rapid succession. The finished stamping is automatically ejected from the machine and gently falls into a collection container.

Fabrication Equipment and Capabilities

Argo Spring uses hydraulic and mechanical presses to create custom fabricated metal stampings in a variety of quantities, from small prototype batches to large-scale production. We operate multiple types of machines to maximize our capabilities. Offerings include:

  • Blanking, forming, and drawing operations. These operations use material efficiently and can result in less waste or scrap than material removal or cutting operations.
  • Automatic press brakes. These forming machines are capable of up to 1,500 hits per minute, for rapid throughput and in-tolerance production.
  • Hydraulic and manual punch presses. These machines work with a range of tool sizes for stamping accurately-positioned holes and cutouts of different sizes.

Benefits & Applications of Metal Stamping

Metal stamping and fourslide stamping are extremely cost-effective and efficient ways to manufacture metal components at scale, especially when a design includes multiple features like holes, bends, or notches. Stamping presses strike rapidly on a continuous feed of material, which means hundreds or thousands of parts can be stamped in a short time. This saves time and reduces labor costs.

With our metal stamping and fourslide stamping capabilities we produce parts including:

  • Springs
  • Spring clips
  • Fasteners
  • Clamps
  • Brackets
  • Tabs

This rapid and highly precise metal fabrication method offers several benefits, such as:

  • High-speed production: Enables fast, continuous fabrication of large quantities with minimal downtime.
  • Tight tolerances: Maintains high accuracy and repeatability for critical performance and safety applications.
  • Design flexibility: Compatible with both simple and multi-featured components, sharp bend angles, and custom profiles.
  • Reduced waste: Efficient material usage leads to cost savings and sustainability.

Argo’s metal stamping and fourslide components are used in mission-critical applications across many sectors. We have produced everything from titanium compression springs for government contracts to stainless steel torsion springs for agricultural equipment and wire forms for aerospace systems. Additional common industries and applications include, but are not limited to:

  • Aerospace
  • Automotive and trucking
  • Agriculture and farming equipment
  • Medical devices
  • Military and defense
  • Energy and utilities (including nuclear)
