Industry Applications

Argo Spring Manufacturing Co. offers metal stamping and manufacturing services to support a range of aerospace applications, including:

  • Brackets. Choose from multiple plating types for fully customized aerospace brackets and bracket stamping, such as nickel, cadmium, and silver. Projects requiring large-volume orders may also benefit from our prototyping services.
  • Bushings and bearings. With four-slide stamping press technology and advanced casting processes to support density and uniformity, we can produce durable bearings as well as small, oval, tall, round, and other shapes of aircraft bushings, with different metals and composite materials to choose from based on your application’s needs.
  • Clips. When selecting custom stamped clips, you’ll gain access to unlimited resources for plating, with heat treating, oil quenching, vacuum hardening, and JIT delivery. Our clients often use our clips for mounting brackets in commercial aircraft.
  • Springs. In the aerospace industry, precision springs are crucial for the reliable function of systems under extreme conditions and must be engineered to meet stringent industry standards. Unlike standard springs, these are engineered to exacting specifications in terms of material, spring constant values, and size.
  • Terminals. Precious, pre-post, and selective plating are available for terminals, and you can get these products in numerous metals based on your specific requirements. In addition, selective plating options come with secondary forming if needed.
  • Custom strips and wire forms. We develop wire forms using innovative processes that can achieve some of the finest sizes down to .18″ and ensure close tolerances. As with other products, our wire forms come in different metals, with multiple assemblies available.

Materials Used

At Argo Spring Manufacturing, we provide solutions in multiple materials, including aluminum, titanium, and alloyed steel.

Titanium

Many aircraft components use titanium alloys because of their resistance to extreme low and high temperatures of up to 600 °C. Titanium’s benefits include corrosion resistance and a high strength-to-weight ratio, the former of which results from the material’s passive oxide coating.

As specialists in manufacturing high-strength titanium wire forms and stampings, we can produce custom springs in varying diameters and lengths.

Aluminum

Aircraft also often use aluminum to achieve lightweight performance and conductivity. At Argo Spring Manufacturing, we offer a range of aluminum wire and stamped components for use in these applications, with the ability to fully customize designs with fast turnaround.

Steel

Carbon and stainless steel can be used to produce strong, durable custom components for production runs of varying sizes. Depending on your needs, we can also provide you with forms available in various steel alloys, including silicon, nickel, chromium, and others.

Certified Compliance in Aerospace and Space

Our experts work to develop solutions that adhere to some of the strictest industry standards, such as:

  • AS9100D. The aerospace industry frequently adheres to this standard for quality management systems, with requirements for configurations, preventing counterfeit parts, and risk management that apply specifically to aerospace manufacturing.
  • AS9110. This standard also applies to aerospace applications, as it governs the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft components.
  • AS9120. Aerospace distributors must comply with this standard, which pertains to their obligations in maintaining quality along the supply chain.
  • ISO 9001:2015. Another critical standard, ISO 9001:2015 applies to organizational frameworks for customer satisfaction and meeting customer needs.

Case Study: Custom Large Diameter Wire Extension Spring

With extensive expertise in manufacturing high-strength wire forms, Argo Spring produced a custom, large-diameter extension spring for a heavy-duty industrial application. Using cold-drawn titanium, our team utilized precision machining to form the tapered spring coils and hooked ends. We also applied secondary processes like shot peening to improve fatigue life and liquid penetrant inspection of the surface before a primer was applied. Our team successfully delivered 75 units of this spring, which featured 18 coils, a maximum outer diameter of 2.10″, and a free length of 7.82″, while meeting the client’s strict delivery timeline.
